My clients will tell you that my attention to detail, direction during the shoot, and my laid back personality helps them have fun and relax in front of the camera – even those who are camera shy! 

The first thing you will notice when you speak to me is that I have an accent. I was born in South Africa. At the age of 5 I discovered art-making. I experimented with a variety of visual media, but quickly fell in love with the camera for its ability to tell a story with immediacy and artistry.

Over the years I have studied and assisted talented artists and photographers from around the world. I have a Bachelors degree in Fine Art Photography from the University of Cape Town in South Africa and a Masters Degree  from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

I loved the city of Chicago and it has been home for the past 18 years. I worked in various capacities over the past decade and learnt a great deal about training, marketing and customer service. In 2008 Romy Modlin Photography, LLC opened its doors, specializing in portrait and event photography. 

In 2017, I relocated to Plano, TX and I am excited to be a part of DFW's growing economy.
